Anthony Joshua Honors Late Friends with Tattoos
Anthony Joshua is deeply reflective these days, wanting to keep the memory of his friends alive. Recently, the two-time heavyweight champion made a meaningful decision, tattooing their names on his body.
In December, during a trip to Nigeria to connect with his roots, Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident that took the lives of his close friends, Sheena Ghami and Latif “Rats” Ayodele.
Ghani was Joshua’s recovery therapist, while Ayodele served as his personal trainer. It’s heartbreaking how quickly life can change.
The situation was described by Lanre Ogunlowo, the Ogun State Police Commissioner, who noted that a tire blowout caused the driver to lose control, leading to a crash with a parked truck.
Fortunately, Joshua experienced only minor injuries but still required hospitalization for several days. To honor his friends, he visited Fulham Tattoo in London, where he now has “Rats” and “Sheena” inked on his upper right arm, just below an outline of Africa.
Fulham Tattoo shared his visit on social media, expressing appreciation for Joshua’s unexpected arrival. It’s nice to see, even in sadness, moments of joy shine through.
After the accident, Joshua took some time for himself but later re-emerged to thank fans for their unwavering support during a tough time. He expressed his gratitude on Instagram, reaching out to those who showed love and compassion as he navigated through his mental struggles following the loss of his friends.
Reflecting on their relationship, Joshua stated, “I know what my obligations are. They were my brothers and friends first and foremost. Then we became business partners, hustlers, generals… everything.” It’s a poignant reminder of how bonds can shape our lives.
As for his boxing career, things are currently on pause. After knocking out Jake Paul in December, there were expectations for a match against Tyson Fury in March. However, it’s now uncertain whether that contract still stands after the accident.
Promoter Eddie Hearn mentioned that while he anticipated Joshua would get back to training, the timeline for a potential face-off with Fury remains unclear. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen right now,” he said, reflecting the unpredictability of Joshua’s next steps.
