Authorities have reported the arrest of a middle school vice principal in connection with a child sex sting operation in San Jose, California. The San Jose Police Department stated that 31-year-old Ruben Guzman was involved in an undercover operation leading up to the Super Bowl.
According to police, Guzman communicated with someone he believed was a 13-year-old boy, offering money for sexual favors. “Mr. Guzman had made arrangements to pick up the child in San Jose,” said Police Sgt. Jorge Garibay. “However, upon arriving, he was taken into custody by the SJPD Covert Response Unit.”
A search of Guzman and his vehicle yielded items that indicated preparations for the encounter, although police did not specify what these items were. It was later revealed that Guzman served as the assistant principal at Sunrise Middle School.
He has been charged with having sexual relations with a minor and was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. The police are seeking public assistance in identifying any additional potential victims due to Guzman’s interaction with children in his role.
The school administration expressed its focus on student safety in a statement to a local news outlet. They confirmed Guzman’s immediate removal from campus and noted, “Last Wednesday, we learned of the arrest and our priority was student safety. We have informed families and provided age-appropriate counseling support on campus. We currently have no evidence to suggest that any Sunrise student was involved. This news is very distressing, but it doesn’t reflect the values of our school.”
In total, ten individuals were arrested during this operation, all facing various charges including attempted lewd acts with a minor and child exploitation. The suspects ranged in age from 25 to 72 years old.
