Officials name man shot following reported incident at Trump's Mar-a-Lago

The U.S. Secret Service reported that a man was shot and killed after he allegedly crossed the secure perimeter of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, early Sunday morning.

This incident took place around 1:30 a.m. when the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin from Palm Beach County, North Carolina, attempted to enter another vehicle exiting the resort’s north gate. Confirmation of his identity came from Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw.

Authorities observed the suspect carrying what seemed to be a shotgun and a fuel can. Investigators and deputies confronted him shortly thereafter.

“Officers were faced with a white male holding a gas can and a shotgun. He was instructed to drop what he was carrying, and he put down the gas can but raised the shotgun,” Bradshaw explained to reporters. “In response, the deputy and two Secret Service agents discharged their weapons to neutralize the threat.”

Bradshaw noted that the suspect did not communicate with the officers, and tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fortunately, no personnel from the Secret Service or the sheriff’s office were harmed, and there were, apparently, no Secret Service agents present during the incident.

At the time of the breach, President Trump was reported to be at the White House, even though he typically spends his weekends at Mar-a-Lago.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, mentioned that it seemed the man had purchased a shotgun during his trip. Authorities later discovered a box of firearms in his vehicle.

A family member reported Martin missing shortly after the breach, around 1:38 a.m. on Sunday, according to a Moore County Sheriff’s Office statement. He was subsequently added to the national missing persons list before federal authorities coordinated a search in Florida.

Interestingly, the sheriff’s office stated that there had been no previous medical history associated with the young man, passing on the missing persons case details to federal authorities, who clarified he is not involved in any related investigations in Florida.

The FBI, U.S. Secret Service, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are looking into the matter, delving into the suspect’s background, his actions, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

Authorities are also developing a psychological profile as part of the inquiry. According to FBI Miami Special Agent Brett Skiles, they are contributing to the investigation since the shooting occurred in a Secret Service-protected area. He noted that the FBI’s evidence response team is on-site processing the scene and encouraged local residents to check their outdoor camera footage from that night.

If anyone saw something unusual, they were urged to report it.

FBI Director Kash Patel indicated that all necessary resources are being dedicated to this incident, emphasizing ongoing collaboration with the Secret Service. White House press secretary Caroline Levitt remarked on X that the Secret Service acted swiftly and decisively against an armed individual who trespassed on President Trump’s property.

This incident follows reports of two assassination attempts on President Trump during his 2024 campaign.
