Maplewood Mall Shooting Leaves One Injured
Authorities are on the lookout for a suspect after a shooting incident at Maplewood Mall in Minnesota resulted in one man being injured on Sunday.
According to reports, two juveniles were apprehended and held on charges of third-degree rioting, with their details logged at the Ramsey County Jail. Local news outlets indicated that the shooting appeared to have originated from a confrontation among a group in the mall’s lower concourse.
When police arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his hip. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, and he was quickly transported to Regions Hospital for treatment.
Reports indicated that the suspect in the shooting was described as a smaller man dressed in a black stocking cap, black jacket, white shirt, and black pants.
Miranda Klein, an employee at the mall, stated that a customer had phoned in about a scuffle in the bathroom shortly before the shooting occurred. “People were really confused at first,” she said. “It’s only later you start to make sense of it all.”
Another staff member, Kat Vann, recounted hearing gunfire and witnessing a rush of people fleeing in the opposite direction. “I saw all the kids running as soon as I heard those shots,” she recalled.
In an official statement, Maplewood Mall described the event as isolated, involving two individuals under 22 years old. They extended their gratitude to local law enforcement and security for their swift action. “Their response helped ensure that things were brought under control quickly and prevented further injuries,” the statement read. The mall emphasized that the safety of patrons and employees is their highest priority.
