North Korea's Kim Jong Un warns of potential total destruction of South Korea in recent threat

Kim Jong Un Issues Strong Warning to South Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un intensified his threats on Thursday, claiming his nation could “completely destroy” South Korea if it felt provoked. At the ongoing congress of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party in Pyongyang, he labeled South Korea as “the most hostile enemy” and dismissed the current government’s conciliatory approach as “clumsy, deceitful, and crude,” according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim rejected South Korea’s recent overtures to mend relations, stating that North Korea is prepared to take “arbitrary actions” should South Korea engage in “unpleasant acts.” He ominously suggested the potential for South Korea’s “complete collapse,” adding that such a scenario should not be ruled out.

During the conference, Kim detailed his ambitious five-year policy goals aimed at expanding North Korea’s nuclear capabilities. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute estimated last year that the country possesses about 50 nuclear warheads, with sufficient material to develop 40 more.

Kim asserted that North Korea’s standing in the international arena has grown significantly. As reported by KCNA, he emphasized, “It is our party’s firm will to further expand and strengthen our national nuclear power and thoroughly exercise our status as a nuclear-weapon state.” The focus will be on increasing the quantity of nuclear arms and enhancing their delivery systems.

Plans were also mentioned for North Korea to develop advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of being launched from underwater, as well as AI-driven weapons systems and drones. It’s a lot to take in, really.

Interestingly, while Kim has signaled a possible openness to future negotiations with the United States, he has explicitly placed the blame on the U.S. for the current state of affairs. He remarked, “We are prepared for either peaceful coexistence or permanent conflict, and the choice is not ours to make.”

Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim’s teenage daughter, seen as a potential successor, recently appeared at a military parade in Pyongyang. Her presence during significant events seems to hint at her growing role in the regime.

Notably, Kim mentioned that if the U.S. could temper its confrontational stance and accept North Korea’s situation, there would be “no reason why we cannot be friends.” This, of course, hinges on a major shift in diplomatic dynamics, which appears unlikely at this moment.
