Anchors let go by KTLA did not get to say goodbye to viewers after internal memo is revealed

KTLA Anchors Laid Off Without Farewell

Recently, several beloved KTLA anchors were unexpectedly let go—a move that many found particularly upsetting since they were not given a chance to say goodbye to their loyal viewers.

Carlos Herrera, one of the remaining staff members, shared his thoughts on the shocking layoffs during Thursday’s broadcast, addressing the situation live from his anchor desk.

“Before we proceed this morning, I want to take a moment to recognize the news from yesterday that impacts all of us here at KTLA. As you might have heard, numerous cherished colleagues have been dismissed. There’s only so much we can disclose at the moment,” Herrera said while looking into the camera.

“These are tough times, but we’re in this together,” he continued. “We have a duty to bring you the news you need. However, please know that we are thinking about our friends and colleagues during this period.”

Among those fired were veteran anchors Glenn Walker and Lou Parker, as well as weather anchor Mark Kliski, meteorologist Casey Montoya, and reporter Elina Abovian.

In a memo to the staff, News Director Erica Hill Rodriguez addressed the layoffs cautiously, saying, “Out of respect for everyone’s individual situations and ongoing discussions, we can’t share sensitive details at this time, but we will do so when appropriate.” She acknowledged that it was “an incredibly difficult and sad time” for the station and sent her thoughts to the entire team.

This abrupt lack of a proper farewell stirred disappointment among fans, generating backlash and outrage on social media.

Reports indicate that the layoffs are part of an effort by parent company Nexstar Media Group to finalize its acquisition of TEGNA, a media company based in Virginia.
