Trump's Approval Rating Rises to 51 Percent After the State of the Union Address

Donald Trump’s approval rating regarding jobs reached a notable 51 percent in a poll conducted Tuesday evening following his successful State of the Union address.

The Trafalgar Group surveyed 1,084 likely voters from February 24 to February 26, revealing that 47.1% strongly approved of the president’s performance, while an additional 3.7% expressed approval.

Trump’s disapproval rating stands at 48%, with 39.1% strongly disapproving and 8.5% disapproving.

It’s interesting to note that although Trafalgar tends to lean Republican, during the 2024 presidential election cycle, they didn’t conduct national polls. However, their polling in battleground states often underestimated Trump’s support.

WATCH — 250 years of American greatness: President Trump concludes historic State of the Union address:

Trump secured a 5.5-point victory in Arizona, whereas Trafalgar reported a margin of just two points. In Nevada, Trump won by 3.1 points, while Trafalgar predicted a tie. Wisconsin saw Trump winning by a point, while Trafalgar anticipated he would lose by one.

Trafalgar’s predictions were within one point in four other states but didn’t overestimate results by even a small fraction.

It’s no surprise that Trump’s approval rating improves when he communicates directly with Americans, bypassing the filters of mainstream media. He’s navigated challenging economic and foreign policies, arguably pulling us out of a tough situation created by previous administrations, namely Obama and Biden.

Furthermore, Trump’s strategic attempts to highlight a seemingly out-of-touch Democratic Party, which neglects everyday issues—like prioritizing American citizens over illegal immigrants, addressing child welfare, securing the border, and tackling violent crime—may have raised public awareness enough to push Trump’s approval above 50 percent, if only due to this jarring contrast.

As it stands, RealClearPolitics reports an approval rating of 43.3% for Trump, contrasted with a 55.1% disapproval rate. This poll marks the first taken after his State of the Union speech.

Trump’s address was so impactful that even CNN admitted in a poll that 64% (up from 54% before the SOTU) believe his policies will guide the country in a positive direction.

Regardless, it was a particularly bold and impressive speech.
