My party criticizes Trump's action on Iran — here’s why they are wrong about it

As a member of the Democratic Party, I find it quite troubling that there are many within my party who are quick to dismiss the recent efforts aimed at achieving significant and enduring change in Iran.

Having supported our party and its candidates for quite some time, I feel it’s necessary to state something clear. The Trump administration, alongside our military, deserves robust backing for their coordinated actions with Israel. This collaboration has already led to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader and several high-ranking Iranian officials, while also undermining Iran’s nuclear and conventional weapon capabilities.

This situation potentially paves the way for a long-awaited shift in the regime, as a significant number of Iranians have long desired to see the end of the current illegitimate government. The president has referenced this sentiment as part of the rationale for the attacks on Tehran and other locations in Iran.

Unfortunately, it seems that some in my party are more focused on regime change in Jerusalem rather than in Tehran, missing an opportunity for genuine political transformation.

Iran is arguably the largest state sponsor of terrorism globally and has persistently refused to dismantle its nuclear program through peaceful negotiations. Consequently, this poses a clear and immediate threat to the national security of the United States and its allies, necessitating prompt and decisive action from the U.S. and Israeli leadership.

I urge our party to prioritize support for Middle Eastern initiatives in a bipartisan fashion, rather than criticizing President Trump for not invoking the War Powers Act prior to launching an orchestrated assault on Iran with Israel.

I doubt that will happen, though.

Yet, as someone loyal to the Democratic Party and its foundational principles, I believe it’s crucial to acknowledge the bold steps President Trump has taken during this period. His actions have included efforts to detain President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela and to eliminate the Supreme Leader of Iran, who represents one of the most perilous theocratic regimes.

Our party’s leaders should unite to support the Iranian government and its people in the coming days, striving to introduce a vision of peace and democracy in the Middle East, a goal long overdue.

What could truly be more significant than that?
