Trump Talks Drug Prices and Military Updates in Cincinnati
During a visit to a manufacturing plant in a Cincinnati suburb, President Donald Trump highlighted issues of affordability, particularly in relation to drug prices. He also provided updates on what he referred to as Operation Epic Fury.
Trump described the military’s operations in Iran as “unbelievable,” asserting that they are “way ahead of schedule.” He commented on the challenges faced over the past several decades, stating, “The United States, along with the rest of the world, had to suffer 47 bad years” due to the previous regime, adding, “Let’s see what happens to them,” in reference to the new Iranian leadership.
On the economic front, Trump expressed optimism about the market, claiming that it has fared “probably a little bit less” poorly than anticipated. He reassured citizens that prices are expected to drop “very substantially,” including the price of oil.
Throughout his speech, he referred to the circumstances in Iran as an “excursion.” When Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked whether this should be labeled a war or an excursion, Trump stated it encompasses both. “It’s an excursion that will keep us out of a war,” he explained, noting, “for [Iran] it’s a war, for us it turned out to be easier than we thought.”
In a comparison, the president likened military strikes against Iranian leadership to combating drug trafficking, mentioning that operations on land are generally “easier” than those at sea.
During his tour of a drug development and manufacturing facility with Dr. Mehmet Oz from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Trump addressed the Most Favored Nation drug pricing status he put in place. He claimed that by threatening “very substantial” tariffs, he was able to negotiate lower drug prices with other countries, resulting in the U.S. being tied for the lowest prices globally.
“I guess other administrations tried, but they’re not that competent. Or they didn’t try at all,” Trump commented.
Congressman Greg Landsman, a Democrat from Ohio, is currently in a competitive race for the midterms and previously wrote an open letter on the need for relief for Ohio families. He articulated the values of the community, expressing dissatisfaction with the current chaos and corruption in Washington.
Trump had previously touched on the topic of drug prices during his State of the Union address, mentioning the Trump Rx platform, which aims to provide direct-to-consumer access to medications.
Additionally, Trump made an appearance in Hebron, Kentucky, emphasizing the theme of affordability there as well. This area is represented by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, who faces a primary challenge endorsed by Trump.
