California Man Indicted for Assaulting TSA Officers

A man from California has been charged with federal offenses after allegedly attacking two Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at Dallas Love Field Airport, which also resulted in serious injuries to a Dallas police officer.

Idres Vinay Solomon, aged 33, from Oakland, is facing charges that could lead to a maximum of 20 years in prison for assault and injury to a federal officer.

As per a federal complaint filed recently, Solomon had a ticket for a Southwest Airlines flight scheduled for March 10 to Oakland International Airport. However, when he approached the security checkpoint without any identification, a TSA agent directed him to a different line, where he was identified through the agency’s Verified ID process.

Following a failed identification check, the complaint states that Solomon became aggressive and verbally hostile.

“Violence against TSA and law enforcement will not be tolerated in the Northern District of Texas,” remarked Ryan Raybould, the U.S. Attorney for the area.

In the incident, Solomon reportedly punched a TSA officer in the neck after the officer called for a supervisor.

Police were called to the scene, and it’s alleged that Solomon then struck one of the responding officers multiple times in the face. This assault resulted in a severe eye injury, specifically an orbital blowout fracture, requiring hospital treatment.

After his apprehension, Solomon reportedly “deliberately spit on” the officer’s arm while the officer was attempting to place him in a patrol vehicle, as noted in the complaint.

Prosecutors emphasize that Solomon disobeyed lawful commands from officers and continued to shout and resist them.
