Trump's political rivals rejoice over Joe Kent's resignation regarding Iran.

Resignation of Joe Kent Sparks Reactions

Following Joe Kent’s resignation from his position as head of the National Counterterrorism Center, there has been notable celebration among opponents of President Donald Trump within media and political circles. This comes amidst escalating tensions surrounding the war in Iran.

Kent shared his decision to step down on X, expressing that he “cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran.” He pointed to pressure from Israel as a contributing factor to the conflict.

In 2016, Tim Miller, a staunch critic of Trump and former communications director for Jeb Bush, commended Kent for his resignation during a time of war. He stated that, “I’ve talked a lot of crap about Joe Kent over the years (and rightfully so), so I can’t tell you all of his motives here, but I have to say it’s pretty refreshing to see someone in the administration drawing the line on something.”

Another key figure, Bill Kristol, wondered about the potential ripple effects among other members of the so-called MAGA coalition in response to Kent’s actions. He remarked, “Interesting. How many other ambitious MAGA poles have found a way forward to oppose the war?”

Andrew Egger, a White House correspondent for Bulwark, noted that some administration figures appeared indifferent to the Iran conflict, saying, “The administration’s closest Groyper members are ignoring the Iran war.”

Sam Stein, the editor-in-chief of Bulwark, seemed to express approval of Kent’s resignation, commenting, “Wow. Top Tulsi MP resigns over Iran war.”

ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl also reacted positively, stating, “This is something we rarely saw during the Trump administration, when a senior government official resigns in protest — in this case, to protest the war against Iran.”

In contrast, Congressman Don Bacon (R-Nebraska), who has criticized Trump previously, responded negatively to Kent’s resignation. He stated, “Good. Iran has killed over 1,000 Americans. Their EFP mines were the deadliest in Iraq. Anti-Semitism is an evil I hate, and I definitely don’t want it in our government.”

David Leavoy, a supporter of Ron DeSantis’ 2024 campaign against Trump, described Kent’s remarks as “utterly insane nonsense.” He added, “Absolutely insane nonsense. You know this guy’s brain is broken when he has to make up bullshit about the Iraq war. His wife is writing on a pro-Hamas site, so no need to be shocked.”
