Wynton Hall’s New Book on AI
Wynton Hall, social media director for Breitbart News, recently shared insights about his new book, Code Red: Left, Right, China, and the Race to Control AI. He hopes it will “offer hope and solutions,” guiding conservatives in harnessing the advantages of AI while sidestepping its dangers.
In a conversation on Wednesday, Hall emphasized a significant danger: the risk of “cognitive offloading,” where critical thinking skills may decline due to reliance on AI. He pointed out that, without foundational education—specifically grammar, logic, and rhetoric—children could become easily susceptible to plagiarism.
He noted the importance for families to grasp how AI will influence education, job markets, and even values in relationships. Hall suggested that these are urgent questions, alongside considerations about national security that provoke deeper existential and faith-related inquiries.
Expressing a sense of urgency, Hall mentioned how, upon starting this writing project, his publisher indicated that few conservatives were tackling the political implications of AI, which he recognized as a pressing issue. “And they were right,” he reflected. “This book has taken me to unexpected places. Reality can feel quite dystopian.”
Nevertheless, Hall’s intention is to instill hope and equip readers with actionable insights. He assured that it’s crucial to be prepared for the positive and negative aspects of AI. He views Code Red as a framework for conservatives who seek a grasp of these evolving dynamics.
“We didn’t want to just scare people. Instead, every chapter includes solutions,” he concluded, aiming to empower readers rather than leave them feeling overwhelmed and uncertain.
