Joy Reid Questions Kamala Harris’s Presidential Aspirations

In a recent interview on March 13, former MSNBC host Joy Reid shared her views about Kamala Harris’s political future, suggesting that Harris should not pursue another run for the presidency. Reid argued that the U.S. might not be ready to elect a woman as president.

During a discussion with podcast host Akbar Gbajabiamila, Reid expressed her opinion, stating, “I hope she doesn’t run again. I don’t think she should run again.” While she praised Harris as a “wonderful human being,” she expressed concern about the country’s likelihood of electing a woman to the presidency within her lifetime.

Reid also touched on what Harris would have to do to stand a chance against Donald Trump in the 2024 election. She emphasized the importance of distancing from Joe Biden’s Middle East policies, which she described as “abhorrent.” According to Reid, Harris’s alignment with Biden’s stances has led to backlash and protests wherever she appears.

“If she runs again, she will have to disown Biden on Israel and Gaza,” Reid asserted. However, she questioned whether Harris, known for her loyalty, would be willing to take such a step.

Harris’s office has not yet commented on Reid’s statements. Interestingly, Reid’s comments resonate with earlier remarks from former First Lady Michelle Obama, who suggested the nation might not be ready to elect a female president. Obama pointed to Harris’s prior electoral loss as indicative of this sentiment.

In a February interview, Harris hinted at the possibility of running in the future, though she remained noncommittal. When asked about her intentions, she simply responded, “I haven’t decided yet,” leaving room for speculation.

Reid also noted that Harris’s recent memoir indicated a desire to potentially campaign again, although Harris stated it was not her intention to signal a new run. Ambiguity remains about her political ambitions and the challenges she might face moving forward.
