Jeffries Criticizes Trump Over Remarks and War Decisions
House Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) admonished former President Donald Trump for labeling Democrats as America’s “greatest enemy,” urging him to “shut up his reckless mouth.” This came after Trump, in a post, stated that the radical left and the Democratic Party were the real threats to the U.S.
During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Jeffries expressed his disapproval of Trump’s comments. “Donald Trump should really think about what he’s saying. Before he gets someone hurt, he needs to be more responsible,” he remarked.
Jeffries continued by addressing the ongoing conflict in Iran, describing it as a “war of reckless choices.” He pointed out the unforeseen consequences, such as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, leading to significant increases in gas prices. “People are feeling the pinch at the pump, and it’s just another reminder of the challenges we face,” he said, implying that the current economic climate was a result of Trump’s policy failures.
When questioned about possible further funding for military actions, Jeffries didn’t commit to supporting additional Pentagon funds or indicate whether he would advise Democrats to vote against it. “Right now, there’s a lot of concern regarding continuing this war, which is costing Americans billions,” he noted.
Reiterating his stance, Jeffries mentioned that the American populace is largely focused on issues of affordability and quality of life. “They want the government to tackle the real problems at home rather than get entangled in needless conflicts overseas,” he stated, expressing skepticism about the war ending favorably for the U.S.
The White House has yet to respond to requests for comments on Jeffries’ statements.
