U.S. Submits Peace Plan to Iran Amid Ongoing Conflict

As the conflict with Iran stretches into its fourth week without signs of resolution, the United States has put forward a proposed peace plan. However, the response from Iranian officials has largely been dismissive, with some even mocking the U.S.’s recent diplomatic gestures.

On Tuesday, the U.S. outlined a 15-point peace plan for Iran’s consideration.

One Iranian spokesperson scoffingly questioned, “Has your internal conflict reached the point where you negotiate with yourself?”

The New York Post reported, referencing Israel’s Channel 12, that the plan primarily seeks to curtail Iran’s nuclear ambitions and limit the influence of its regional proxies. Additionally, it insists on keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for navigation.

In exchange, the U.S. and its allies have offered to help with Iran’s reconstruction efforts post-agreement.

Despite these proposals, a spokesperson for Iran criticized the U.S.’s negotiation tactics, claiming that Iran has been misled by previous diplomatic initiatives and is not interested in making any agreements.

Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfagali asserted, “People like us will never come to terms with people like you, not now and never will.” He further stated that a global superpower should not still be entangled in such a conflict and added, “Defeat should not be disguised as a deal. The era of empty promises is over.”

Zolfagali reiterated the mockery, questioning, “Has your inner conflict reached the point where you negotiate with yourself?”

The morning after the proposal, Iranian English-language Press TV announced that Iran has formally rejected the 15-point peace plan.

An Iranian official described the offer as a “ruse,” asserting that the conditions are “too far” from what Iran would accept. The official indicated that any cessation of hostilities would have to align with Iran’s own terms and timetable.

In a counter-offer detailed by Axios, Iran outlined five conditions they deem necessary:

  1. A complete halt to attacks and assassinations carried out by the U.S. and Israel.
  2. Creation of mechanisms to prevent the resumption of war.
  3. Compensation for damages incurred during the conflict.
  4. Termination of all U.S. and Israeli assaults on Hezbollah and pro-Iranian militias in Iraq.
  5. International acknowledgment and assurances of Iran’s authority in the Strait of Hormuz.
