Kayla Beshear returned to Dodger Stadium for the opening day, feeling a mix of happiness and heartache, as it’s hard to be there without her and Alex’s daughter, who passed away in October.
Attending the match against the Diamondbacks, she described the experience as “very bittersweet” in an Instagram post.
In her post, she expressed, “What would I give to have Sterling here?” and noted, “I will always have her in my heart.”
On November 7, Alex and Kayla shared the painful news that their newborn baby, Sterling Bethea, had died on October 26. They conveyed their grief, stating, “There are no words to express the pain we are experiencing.”
Alex missed the Dodgers’ World Series win over the Blue Jays while navigating their loss.
Later that night, he left a heartfelt message in the comments on Kayla’s post, saying, “I love you so much!!” followed by three heart emojis.
During spring training last month, Alex addressed reporters, reflecting on the sorrow he and Kayla faced last fall. He shared, “The lesson we learned from this is that life can change in an instant. Ten minutes was enough. Sterling Sol was the most beautiful girl in the world. We held her, changed her diaper, read to her and loved her. Our time together was far too short. We hope those who listen will empathize and respect our desire for privacy as we continue to heal.”
Although Alex did not play in the Dodgers’ 8-2 victory over Arizona, he is expected to join the team at some point during the series.
