Migrant Taken into Custody Following Suspected Attempt to Attack Bank of America

Attempted Bombing in Paris Thwarted by Police

A teenage immigrant from Senegal has been arrested for allegedly attempting to detonate a homemade bomb outside a Bank of America branch in central Paris, as reported.

Early Saturday morning, around 3:30 a.m., officers from the Brigades Against Crime (BAC) intervened to stop what appeared to be a terrorist attack on La Boétie in the 8th arrondissement of the city.

As per information acquired by reports, a hooded individual was seen outside the bank trying to ignite a mortar-shaped firecracker fuse attached to a five-liter container filled with an unidentified liquid, believed to be some type of hydrocarbon.

Thankfully, BAC personnel quickly intervened and prevented any fire from starting.

The 17-year-old suspect was originally from Senegal but had moved to France, currently residing in the diverse suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis, which has been labeled as a dangerous area in a recent report.

When questioned, the suspect stated he was not alone in the plan. He mentioned that he and an accomplice, who managed to escape, were drawn in through Snapchat with the lure of 600 euros. He further claimed that a third person drove them to the bombing site.

The investigation is reportedly being led by the Criminal Brigade’s counter-terrorism unit.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunes commented on the incident, expressing gratitude for the prompt action of the Prefectural Police, who successfully thwarted the attack. He also emphasized the need for ongoing vigilance, especially in light of escalating concerns about potential terrorist acts across Europe.

These worries have been fueled by recent attacks on Jewish sites in Belgium, London, and the Netherlands. A group known as Harakat Ahab al-Yamin al-Islam (HAYI/Islamic Right Movement) has claimed responsibility for some of these incidents, citing military actions in Iran as motivation.

In a related instance, Norwegian police arrested three brothers from Iraq earlier this month in connection with a bombing near the US embassy in Oslo, suspected to be a retaliatory act linked to the situation with Iran.
