Courtside Incident with Jalen Brunson and Martha Stewart
What a memorable moment at the game!
Recently, Jalen Brunson joined Martha Stewart on “The Roommates Show,” alongside his Knicks teammate Josh Hart. They reminisced about a rather unfortunate incident from last spring—he accidentally broke his toe during a playoff game at Madison Square Garden.
“You had no idea. It’s not your fault. I should’ve worn different shoes,” Stewart, who is 84, remarked about the incident that occurred in May 2025.
For those who might not recall, Brunson collided with Stewart courtside during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, which resulted in the Knicks losing to the Pacers in a thrilling 138-135 overtime match.
Brunson, now 29, expressed his apologies for the mishap during a break and even sent a basketball to Stewart’s grandson. However, Stewart highlighted how suddenly things unfolded. “You jumped up really quickly, and I remember telling you, ‘It’s okay.’ You didn’t realize you’d hurt me. I didn’t explicitly say it, but I reassured you, ‘It’s okay.’ Though, honestly? It wasn’t okay at all,” she added.
Afterward, Stewart had her foot checked at the Hospital for Special Surgery on the Upper East Side, hilariously naming the injury after herself and Brunson. “They called it the Stewart Branson fracture,” she giggled on the show, adding that she had an X-ray to prove it. “It was a real break. I’m all healed now, but it did take about a year,” she shared.
When Hart, 31, asked Brunson about his feelings regarding Stewart’s experience, Brunson responded candidly, “I don’t feel very good about it,” eliciting laughter from everyone present.
In a prior interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Stewart mentioned, “Look at these open-toed shoes! You should really avoid them when you’re on the court.” She chuckled as she adjusted her sandals, explaining, “But right now, they’re all I can wear.”
As the Knicks find themselves in another playoff run, it seems Stewart may opt for sturdier footwear this time around.
