Lead investigator in Nancy Guthrie case had ‘not looked into a murder before’

One of the primary investigators looking into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie in Arizona reportedly had no prior experience with murder cases before leading the unit, according to a law enforcement insider.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has faced significant criticism for their ineffective search efforts after the 84-year-old woman went missing from her Tucson home over two months ago.

A police source, who wished to remain anonymous due to concerns about job security, shared insights with a reporter from NewsNation. It has recently come to light that the initial responders were poorly prepared for the situation they encountered.

“The officers at the scene weren’t veteran homicide detectives,” the source stated.

“From what I know, they lacked substantial experience with homicide investigations, which included a supervisor who had never looked into a homicide case prior to becoming the head of the homicide unit.”

With increased scrutiny on the sheriff’s office, the insider claimed that promotions within the agency often favor connections over experience.

“Promotions seem to be based not on merit but rather on personal referrals and who helps whom,” the source explained in an interview that will be broadcast in full on Thursday evening.

Nancy is thought to have been taken from her home in Tucson early on February 1st.

Disturbingly, security footage retrieved from her doorbell camera captured a masked individual lingering near her front door on the night of her presumed abduction.
