TLC’s Chilli Faces Backlash Over MAGA Claims
TLC member Chilli is reportedly facing significant backlash due to her perceived ties to the MAGA movement.
Recently, it came to light that the singer of “No Scrubs” made a donation to Donald Trump’s re-election campaign and retweeted an offensive post regarding Michelle Obama.
Chilli claims these actions were coincidental and that she does not support Trump. Yet, the fan response has been intense.
A source close to her mentioned, “She takes this seriously and believes it should not overshadow traditions that empower Black women. That’s just not her character.”
They emphasized, “She’s not really MAGA. She voted for President Obama twice. There’s no MAGA community surrounding her. She finds MAGA problematic,” referring to the January 6th insurrectionists.
Last week, Chilli faced criticism after reposting a disturbing conspiracy theory about Michelle Obama. Sources reveal she felt humiliated and later expressed her deep respect for the Obamas while denouncing the MAGA community.
“This situation has impacted her profoundly, to the point where she prays daily with her prayer group,” the source added.
The online uproar, including reactions from influencers and celebrities like DL Hughley and Jemele Hill, hasn’t helped. Some suggested that Chilli’s statements were a way to protect TLC’s upcoming tours alongside Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue, who are grappling with their own issues.
Her attempts to clarify seemed to backfire as internet users uncovered her MAGA connections, including the individuals she follows and posts she has liked related to Trump.
In her defense, Chilli stated, “I didn’t read the fine print. I thought I was supporting anti-trafficking causes and veterans’ causes.”
A source explained that her conservative values don’t align with hate, noting, “Her message was genuine. She isn’t comfortable with these happenings,” also mentioning she isn’t tech-savvy and doesn’t own a laptop.
Another source acknowledged the sincerity of Chilli’s comments but labeled her willfully ignorant, saying, “I’m not surprised she was unaware.”
Meanwhile, some music industry insiders are pointing out that ticket sales for their tour have been slow in major cities like New York, expressing concern over how her MAGA association could impact box office revenue.
“The timing couldn’t be worse. Just look at the current events. Even MAGA supporters are frustrated with MAGA,” a source commented.
While ticket sales are sluggish in New York, reports indicate that over 150,000 tickets have been sold, with six markets, including Los Angeles, selling out.
Chilli’s representatives, as well as those for TLC, were unavailable for comment.
