Alito received hospital treatment due to an incident on March 20 that was not previously made public.

I worked for Justice Alito—the person I know is not the exaggerated version critics portray

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was treated for dehydration at a Philadelphia hospital after an incident on March 20. Though he felt dizzy, he wasn’t admitted and returned home later that night without any issues.

At 76, Alito attended a Federalist Society dinner where he began to feel unwell. Security personnel recommended a hospital visit as a precaution. According to witnesses, there was nothing concerning about his condition, and he did not faint during the evening.

It was reported that he intended to drive back to Northern Virginia with his wife, opting to stop at the hospital on the way. After receiving treatment for dehydration, he went home without complication.

Earlier that day, Alito was in Philadelphia for an event recognizing his legal contributions but missed the discussion panels. He did manage to attend a pre-dinner reception and the dinner itself, which was attended by several federal judges, including some he had clerked for in the past.

Though he didn’t appear in court that morning, he participated in a private conference with his colleagues afterwards. Following dinner, adhering to his security detail’s insistence, he saw a doctor just to be on the safe side.

In the days following the incident, Alito appeared to be fine, showing no visible issues. He celebrated his 76th birthday shortly after, coinciding with a Supreme Court session that dealt with arguments on birthright citizenship, during which President Donald Trump was also present. He has served on the Supreme Court since his nomination by President George W. Bush in 2005.

Alito is currently the second-oldest justice on the court, following Justice Clarence Thomas, who is 77.
