UConn Huskies Eye Third National Championship
The UConn Huskies men’s basketball team is now just one victory away from clinching their third national championship in four years. They’ve made it to the Final Four after a thrilling win over the Duke Blue Devils in the Elite Eight. Braylon Mullins sealed the game with a long 3-pointer just as the final buzzer sounded. Prior to that, Duke had topped the St. John’s Red Storm to reach this point.
In a lighthearted moment, Andrea Hurley, the wife of head coach Dan Hurley, noted that she felt the St. John’s fans were actually supporting the Huskies during their Sweet 16 matchup against Michigan State. It’s kind of interesting how rivalries can shift in unexpected ways, right?
She candidly said, “Okay, I’ll say it: St. John’s fans…when we went to the game, all the St. John’s fans were rooting for us. It broke my heart. It’s really sad. It’s crap… It’s crap.” It seems her emotions are pretty mixed on the matter.
Looking Ahead to the Final Four
In discussions with Rick Pitino’s wife at the Big East Championship, Hurley found out that there seemed to be a family-like bond that goes beyond school rivalries. While she might have reservations about seeing the Red Storm in the tournament, she also expressed hesitation about wanting to face the Blue Devils.
Earlier this week, Dan Hurley credited his wife for helping to manage the emotions of the game, especially after Mullins’ last-second shot against Duke. It could have turned into a different situation with a technical foul if the players had rushed onto the court too soon.
As they prepare to take on Illinois State in the Final Four, the anticipation builds. The winner will go up against either Arizona or Michigan. It’ll be exciting to see how it all unfolds.
