Wolverines Advance to National Championship
The Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team is heading to the national championship for the first time since 2018, following a 91-73 victory over the Arizona Wildcats in the Final Four.
They began the game strong, establishing a 16-point lead midway through the first half and maintaining control throughout. Aday Mara’s efficient shooting and Elliott Cado’s long-range abilities really contributed to Michigan’s success.
Star player Jaksel Lendeborg faced a tough game, picking up two fouls early on and later injuring his ankle, which sidelined him for part of the match. However, he managed to make a comeback in the second half, hitting two 3-pointers despite clearly dealing with pain, ending the game with 11 points in just 14 minutes. Meanwhile, Trey McKennie made a significant impact, scoring 16 points with impressive 3-point shooting.
Mara led the Wolverines with 26 points and nine rebounds, and Cado contributed a solid 13 points and 10 assists.
On the other hand, it was a frustrating night for Arizona. They struggled to find their rhythm and shot only 37% from the field. Freshman Core Peat scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, while teammates Brayden Burries and Jayden Bradley added 13 points each. Motiejus Krivas chipped in with 11 points.
The Wolverines have a notable history; they lost to Villanova in the 2018 championship. This marks their third Final Four appearance since 1993, though you can’t help but think about the long wait since their last championship win in 1989, when they triumphed over Seton Hall.
Looking ahead, the Wolverines will face the University Huskies in the national championship game, which takes place on Monday night. The Huskies secured their spot by defeating the Illinois Fighting Illini for a chance at the title.
