Tragic Discovery of 12-Year-Old Girl
In a heartbreaking incident in Connecticut, authorities discovered a 12-year-old girl deceased in her stepfather’s home. The police suspect that her stepfather sexually assaulted her prior to her death.
According to a police statement, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at a residence on Elm Street around 10:25 a.m. on March 18. The girl, Eve Rogers, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her mother reportedly found her unresponsive when she went to wake her up. Eve had been home-schooled and had not attended public school since dropping out in the fourth grade in 2022.
After obtaining a search warrant, police conducted an extensive search of the home. Anthony Federline, her stepfather, was arrested on charges of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. Reports indicate that pills were found in the room where Eve’s body was discovered, and she was found naked from the waist down, covered only by a blanket.
DNA testing led to Federline’s arrest, though investigators also found DNA belonging to an unidentified individual.
Initially, the family created a GoFundMe page, which has since been removed. The case has sparked outrage among parents in the school district since Federline was allowed to continue driving a school bus after Eve’s death. He was only terminated following his arrest.
One parent expressed their frustration, saying, “We just wanted answers. We wanted accountability… someone to be held responsible.” Enfield Superintendent Stephen Mosio responded, stating that the district was unaware Federline was a person of interest until he was arrested.
Another parent emphasized their relief that Federline was no longer driving children around, yet expressed that the overall situation remained unsettling.
In light of these tragic events, a member of the Connecticut State Assembly has called for changes to home learning legislation, highlighting the significant impact such situations have on vulnerable lives.
Federline is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
