The Islamic Republic of Iran Agrees to Two-Week Ceasefire
The Iranian government has announced a two-week ceasefire, which will facilitate access through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi released a statement lauding the efforts of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir in advancing negotiations.
On behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran, I extend heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Sharif and Field Marshal Munir for their dedicated work towards resolving the conflict in the region.
In light of a request from Prime Minister Sharif via Twitter, and considering the US request for negotiations based on a 15-point proposal, as well as the President’s acceptance of Iran’s 10-point proposal for talks, I make the following announcement on behalf of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council:
If assaults on Iran halt, our strong military will also suspend defensive actions. Safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz will be available for two weeks, contingent on coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces and a careful evaluation of technical limitations.
President Donald Trump shared news of the ceasefire on his Truth Social platform this Tuesday, indicating that Iran and the United States reached an agreement before a deadline.
“Following discussions with Prime Minister Sharif and Field Marshal Munir, they have requested a delay in our planned military deployment and a pause in bombings and strikes on Iran for two weeks. This is contingent on Iran ensuring the immediate and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump stated.
“This ceasefire is mutual! The motivation for this is that we have achieved all military objectives and are nearing a comprehensive peace agreement with Iran. We perceive Iran’s 10-point proposal as a reasonable foundation for negotiations.”
“Most of the previous issues have been settled between the United States and Iran, but it will take two weeks to wrap up the agreement,” he added.
Israel has also concurred with the ceasefire.
