Sen. Rick Scott Discusses U.S.-Iran Relations
During an appearance on FOX News Radio’s “The Guy Benson Show,” Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) talked about the importance of setting boundaries in U.S. relations with Iran. He stated that, for him, the critical issue isn’t just nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles, but ensuring that the U.S. is compensated for its expenses in the region.
Scott pointed out ongoing threats, saying, “They’re always trying to kill Americans.” He emphasized that Iran should not possess ballistic missiles, as they could be used against the U.S., and criticized the funding of proxy groups. He expressed a belief that Iran has ample resources and should reimburse the U.S. for its efforts.
Despite the challenges, Scott conveyed a sense of optimism but stressed the necessity of verifying that positive changes will occur. He noted, “We’re not going to allow Iran to have ballistic missiles,” pointing out the danger they pose to U.S. facilities and forces, particularly in Europe. He mentioned that there’s uncertainty about how U.S. funds are utilized in Iran and insisted on offsetting the costs related to the conflict.
While appreciating the president’s efforts in the Middle East, Scott reiterated the importance of maintaining certain boundaries, saying that those boundaries aren’t centered solely on nuclear weapons or missiles. He further conveyed hesitance about supporting any agreements if his set conditions aren’t met.
When pressed by host Guy Benson about potential objections to any agreement, Scott acknowledged he would need to wait and see the outcome but remained doubtful about supporting it. He underscored that the future relationship with Iran hinges on significant changes in Iran’s behavior.
