Ways to get involved as a volunteer for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles

If securing a ticket to the 2028 Olympics seems daunting, there are alternatives. No purchase required.

The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are on the lookout for volunteers, offering a chance for fans to experience the games without buying a ticket.

Through the official LA28 Volunteer Program, individuals can sign up to assist with community events prior to the Games and take on various roles during the events themselves. Interested parties can fill out an interest form on the official website.

This program, sponsored by Delta Air Lines, seeks to foster community support for causes like wildfire recovery, hunger relief, youth sports, and other essential needs, as noted on the LA28 site.

There are two key avenues to participate: you can volunteer in your local community now or express interest in roles for the games in 2028.

For those eager for the Olympic experience, sign-ups for roles during the Games themselves will kick off in summer 2026.

In the meantime, individuals can register online and will be contacted via email when opportunities become available.

Importantly, volunteers aren’t restricted to just Los Angeles. While current community roles are primarily in the greater Los Angeles area, there will be positions at all venues, including those outside the city.

It’s worth noting a few requirements. Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old and proficient in English. Each person must register individually; spots are non-transferable, and not everyone who signs up will be selected.

That said, getting involved early could be beneficial. While community volunteering isn’t a prerequisite for roles during the competition, it might enhance your chances when applications open.

Meanwhile, residents of Los Angeles are expressing dissatisfaction regarding what they label as unreasonable pre-sale ticket prices as the sales begin.

Currently, ticket prices range from around $100 to over $1,000, varying by sport. Tickets for the Closing Ceremony reach about $4,961 each.

As stated by LA28, more tickets are set to be released in future drops, and a resale market will open in 2027, though not for every specific time slot.

General ticket sales will take place from April 9th to April 19th, 2026, with additional sales and a verified resale program to commence in 2027.

The LA28 Summer Olympics are scheduled to occur from July 14 to July 30, 2028, in Los Angeles, California. Known formally as the LA28 Games, the event will utilize existing venues throughout Southern California, such as the LA Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium, with some activities taking place in Oklahoma City.
