Nebraska woman billed $353 for emergency services in California without ever having been there

A fire department in Northern California mistakenly billed a 78-year-old woman from Omaha, Nebraska, over $350 for emergency services she never used or even saw. Linda Johnson expressed her disbelief when she received the invoice from the Roseville Fire Department, amounting to $353 for an incident that occurred on December 15, 2025.

“I’ve never been to California,” Johnson said, noting she has a cousin in the state but has no desire to visit. Her confusion deepened when not just one, but three bills arrived in the mail, marked as overdue. Concerned about the potential for collections, she shared her worries, saying, “I know it wasn’t me. Maybe it was a mistake. Then they keep coming and now they say it’s overdue.”

Johnson’s son, Trammell, made a call to the billing service and learned the charges were linked to what was described as a “fire truck medical response.” Officials indicated that this was likely due to a clerical error—apparently, there’s someone with a similar name residing in California who should have received the bill.

For Johnson, hearing that it was a mistake felt like “a weight lifted off my shoulders.” With countless bills already piling up, this one was an unnecessary worry she didn’t need.
