A video capturing a bouncer in Palm Springs pushing an inebriated customer onto the sidewalk has gained significant attention online, stirring debates about the appropriateness of the force used.
This clip was shared by the Instagram account @760today on Tuesday, showing a drunken patron seemingly bothering a bouncer at the Rooftop 262 bar.
Initially, the doorman pushed the man down, but he stood up with a smirk, knocked over some items, and approached the bouncer again. That’s when the bouncer responded with a right hook, sending him back down. Spectators laughed and cheered as staff dragged the unconscious patron from the sidewalk.
This incident has ignited discussions about how bouncers should handle unruly customers. One online commenter pointed out, “That was a cheap KO lol, he was already on his feet. The bouncer is wrong on that point.”
Meanwhile, another observer, identifying as a nurse, expressed concern, stating, “An inebriated patient is already at risk for impaired reflexes. Hitting him unconscious increases the risk of head trauma, bleeding, and potentially fatal outcomes.”
The context of the initial conflict remains unclear, as the video starts with a man appearing to yell at an employee while being pushed away before the altercation escalated.
Regarding legal implications, California bars have historically been shielded from “dram shop liability,” which means they aren’t liable for incidents that happen to patrons after leaving. However, if the bouncer’s punch is deemed excessive or without provocation, he might face battery charges.
No immediate response was received from Rooftop 262 when approached for comment.
