Sam Altman's San Francisco residence hit in another attack two days later

Attacks on OpenAI CEO’s Home

Early Sunday morning, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s residence in San Francisco was reportedly targeted, marking a second attack in a short span. This incident follows a previous attack just two days earlier when someone allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the property, according to local police.

San Francisco police have announced that two individuals, Amanda Tom, 25, and Muhammad Tariq Hussain, 23, were arrested in connection with the recent event. They were taken into custody around 1:40 a.m. after a Honda sedan stopped in front of Altman’s home.

The police report indicated that the vehicle had been spotted earlier before it returned to halt outside the residence, which extends from Chestnut Street to Lombard Street. Surveillance cameras captured footage of a passenger seemingly reaching through a window and firing a weapon into the house. A security guard on duty also reported hearing gunshots.

Although the vehicle fled the scene, authorities managed to locate it later, thanks to camera footage capturing the license plate. Officers apprehended Tom and Hussain without any complications. Following their arrest, a search of the house uncovered three firearms.

Neither OpenAI nor the San Francisco Police Department provided additional commentary when approached for further information.

This incident comes on the heels of an earlier attack on Friday morning, where a 20-year-old from Texas, Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama, allegedly aimed for the property from the north side of Chestnut Street. Around 3:40 a.m., he reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a metal gate at the entrance on Chestnut Street. The fire was quickly extinguished by security personnel, and the event was captured on surveillance cameras.

Soon after that attack, security staff at OpenAI’s headquarters in Mission Bay encountered someone fitting Moreno-Gama’s description. The person allegedly made threatening remarks about the building and was subsequently taken into police custody.

Moreno-Gama was booked into San Francisco County Jail later that day on various charges, including attempted murder and arson. Fortunately, no injuries resulted from either the Friday or Sunday incidents.

The investigation into both attacks is ongoing, with police looking to determine if there is a connection between them and what the suspects’ motivations might be.
