DoorDash Employee Delivers Meal to the White House
Sharon Simmons made headlines as the first DoorDash employee to deliver a meal to the White House. Following her delivery of a McDonald’s order to President Donald Trump, Simmons expressed hope that she would continue to benefit from the tip tax exemption policy beyond its expiration in 2028.
“Of course, I want to keep going, but I want to enjoy it while I can. It’s not really up to me,” she shared in an interview with FOX News Digital shortly after her delivery. Simmons believes that this policy has substantially aided her financially, estimating an extra income of over $11,000 for her household.
“We expect to save around $3,000 to $4,000,” she noted.
Simmons’ delivery is part of the broader marketing efforts surrounding President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, which includes various tax and border security measures. This bill not only promotes the tip tax exemption but also temporarily removes tax obligations on overtime pay and increases the senior citizen credit to $12,000, along with a $200 boost to the child tax credit.
While some critics claim that these tax cuts undermine state revenue and worsen the national deficit, supporters argue they could stimulate the economy by shifting the tax burden to consumers.
Simmons originally turned to DoorDash during the COVID-19 pandemic as a flexible option to earn some extra cash. “I joined DoorDash in 2022 when I wasn’t going to the office because of the pandemic. It felt good to help people this way,” she explained.
Reflecting on the present, Simmons indicated an awareness of uncertainties regarding the policy’s future but emphasized the significance of feeling heard, stating, “When I was younger, I felt like my voice wasn’t being heard. Now, it seems like we have a say.”
