Reporter from TPUSA thrown to the ground during ICE protest in Minneapolis

During a protest against ICE in Minneapolis on Saturday, Frontline TPUSA reporter Savana Hernandez faced a disturbing situation. The event took place outside the Whipple Federal Building, which houses both an ICE field office and a detention facility.

As Hernandez attempted to escape the crowd, he was abruptly surrounded. Protesters were loud, honking their horns and shouting insults while displaying various novelty items. One individual repeatedly yelled, “Get those people out of here,” pointing at Hernandez.

While trying to make his way through the crowd, Hernandez expressed his discomfort. “Get away from me,” he told the approaching protesters. However, one protester shoved him, causing him to fall against a wire fence. Upon standing, he continued to plead for space, repeatedly telling the demonstrators to stay back.

Despite his efforts to leave, tensions escalated. Hernandez shouted, “Stop touching me!” as another individual moved in closer. As he attempted to escape, protesters continued to push him to the ground, prompting him to say, “Please leave, I’m leaving!” A few nearby people were seen trying to intervene and assist Hernandez against the aggressive protesters.

After the incident, Hernandez shared on social media that he had sustained minor injuries, mentioning scraped feet and pain in his neck and back, but stated he was safe. He expressed concern about the dangers present in certain parts of the country, noting, “I’m just scared that parts of America are so dangerous and unexplored.” He also mentioned that three individuals have been charged in relation to the attack, including the one who shoved him.

The situation is under investigation by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, with reports indicating that four people face charges linked to the protests, specifically targeting assaults on journalists and members of Congress.

Liberal streamer Andrew Mercado commented on the unfolding events, emphasizing that Hernandez was merely filming without engaging, and that the situation escalated to a point where law enforcement had to step in and declare the gathering an unlawful assembly.

Following the assault, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon confirmed that the FBI has opened an investigation into the incident involving Hernandez.
