Puppy’s Abandonment Case Update

A man has been identified as the suspect in the abandonment of a puppy in a perilous area known to have coyotes. Fortunately, the young dog, now called Magnolia, is recovering well.

Thanks to swift media coverage, Mission Viejo Animal Services was able to interview the man believed to be the owner of the approximately 10-week-old female puppy. This led to critical tips from the public.

Magnolia’s former owner had crashed through the shelter’s fence in the early morning hours, leaving her vulnerable to various predators in Arroyo Valley, which is known for its wildlife, including coyotes and bobcats.

After falling several feet, Magnolia wandered for around an hour before reaching a nearby emergency veterinary clinic. Fortunately, the staff at the clinic brought her to safety.

While the investigation continues, the puppy is reportedly receiving loving care at the shelter. Mission Viejo Animal Services points out that this incident emphasizes the responsibilities of pet ownership, particularly for young animals needing considerable attention and resources.

“There are always options,” stated Bryn Lavison, the Director of Mission Viejo Animal Services. “If you’re struggling to care for your pet, please reach out for help instead of considering abandonment.”

The authorities are still deciding whether to forward the case to the District Attorney’s Office. They remind everyone that abandoning animals is both illegal and unsafe, urging distressed pet owners to seek out available resources.

Once Magnolia is fully ready, she will be available for adoption.
