Florida Teacher Charged with Unlawful Relationship with Student
A teacher in Florida has been charged for allegedly having an illegal relationship with a student who is underage, according to police reports.
Kirsten Rose, 37, was taken into custody on Friday, facing five counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and one count of indecent exposure related to her role as a teacher, as per police statements.
Rose teaches math at Cocoa Beach Middle/High School. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office noted the investigation started back in March after the student’s parents grew worried when he returned home late one evening from work.
Using a location tracking app, they discovered that their son’s phone was at an unfamiliar residence. When asked, he claimed he was at his girlfriend’s house but didn’t provide her identity.
Later on, the boy admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with the teacher during further police questioning. Todd Goodyear, a media relations spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, mentioned that initially, the student didn’t disclose much information about the situation.
Following an investigation conducted by the Special Victims Unit, police learned that Rose and the student began communicating on Instagram in November 2025. They reportedly engaged in sexual activities on multiple occasions between February and March of 2026.
Rose was arrested on April 10 and booked into the Brevard County Jail, with bail set at $300,000. She was released a day later. Her arraignment is scheduled for May 5 in Brevard County Court.
In the meantime, school officials have placed Rose on administrative leave. Janet Murnahan, the chief communications officer for Brevard Public Schools, expressed deep concern over the allegations and emphasized the district’s commitment to a safe learning environment for all students.
No discussions about Rose’s arrest occurred during the recent Brevard City School Board meeting.
According to the Brevard County Board of Education’s policy guidelines, teachers must not engage in any inappropriate conduct with students, as it could lead to serious disciplinary actions, including termination.
Regarding such incidents, Goodyear highlighted the importance of maintaining boundaries, especially for authority figures like teachers.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is looking for anyone with more information about this case or additional victims to come forward.
