Taxpayer-Funded Transgender Surgery for Undocumented Immigrants in California

An undocumented immigrant residing in a homeless shelter in California is reportedly undergoing transgender surgery funded by taxpayers. Recently, a whistleblower informed City Journal’s Christopher Rufo and Jonathan Cho about illegal immigrants at a shelter in San Francisco. Upon investigation, they discovered that the shelter not only housed undocumented immigrants but also individuals identifying as transgender.

The two journalists visited the MSC South facility managed by St. Vincent de Paul and learned it had a service contract worth $66 million with the city for 2024. Officials confirmed that illegal aliens resided there and interviewed two male residents from Honduras who identified as transgender. One resident, Rika, admitted to being in the country illegally and mentioned receiving cross-sex hormone therapy through the state’s medical program.

At another shelter, they met a man named Jacqueline, who identified as a transgender woman and claimed to be a legal resident. Dressed in a low-cut red top with makeup on, Jacqueline shared that she was undergoing hormone treatment and had breast implants covered by the state’s Medi-Cal program. Although she claimed legal residency, she suggested that even undocumented immigrants could receive implants. “Even if you’re in the country illegally, you can still get it,” she stated.

When asked about having undergone buttock surgery, Jacqueline revealed she was waiting for that procedure. The article pointed out that San Francisco has numerous clinics offering such surgeries, and the state reportedly considers these surgeries a “medical necessity” for individuals whose gender identity does not align with their sex assigned at birth.

Back in November, it was reported that California, under Democratic leadership, planned to allocate billions for health care services for undocumented immigrants while overlooking police officers’ needs. Governor Gavin Newsom announced a $35 million funding initiative for undocumented residents as former President Donald Trump focused on deporting large numbers of illegal immigrants.

A report mentioned that Trump had a significant victory in the 2024 election, winning the electoral college, the popular vote, and each key battleground state due to a stringent stance on illegal immigration, despite ongoing Democratic opposition to his policies.

According to Fox News, the California Department of Health Services stated the state spends around $9 billion in tax dollars on medical care for undocumented immigrants, which includes transgender services. Additionally, Democratic lawmakers have proposed Senate Bill 1422 to ensure all illegal immigrants are covered under the state’s Medicaid program, Medi-Cal.
