Warriors face lineup concerns amid uncertainty about Steve Kerr

Warriors Reflect on Season and Future Plans

SAN FRANCISCO — With the Warriors’ offseason plans still unclear, head coach Steve Kerr has yet to announce his future, prompting general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. to postpone his customary postseason press briefing.

Following their season-ending loss to the Suns during the play-in tournament, stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have already started discussing their futures. On Monday, the rest of the team addressed the media at Chase Center, as it seemed there were no significant matters left to address.

However, a few insights emerged from the discussions. Each player shared their thoughts as they prepare for training camp, which may look different this year.

Al Horford: Contemplating What’s Next

Al Horford described his first year with the Warriors as a “positive experience,” despite not being able to contend for a championship as he had hoped after his departure from the Celtics.

At 39, Horford has a player option for the next season but hasn’t made any decisions about his future. He mentioned that retirement isn’t off the table and plans to have a discussion with his wife, Amelia.

“I feel good and healthy. I know I can still play at a high level,” Horford shared. “I’m just going to take some time to think things over now that it’s quiet.”

Brandin Podzemski: Aiming for a Contract Extension

Brandin Podzemski, 23, won’t become a restricted free agent until the end of next season, but he’s hoping to secure an extension this summer when eligible. With Curry sidelined, Podzemski has stepped up and noted the lessons learned from peers Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody regarding contract negotiations.

“I want to stick around for a long time,” Podzemski said. “Watching how Kuminga and Moses approached situations—good and bad—has been enlightening for me.” He also clarified earlier comments about competing with Curry, admitting, “I realize I can’t surpass Steph. He’s the only one who can be him.” Instead, Podzemski noted that he aims to be the best version of himself.

Quinten Post: Ready for International Play

Quinten Post, 26, missed almost all of the Warriors’ final games due to a right foot injury but is preparing for potential international play. “I was trying to push through it,” he said.

With Horford’s return and the acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis, Post’s playing time diminished. He expressed his focus on improving his defense and overall fitness, as well as preparing for duties with the Dutch national team.

“I think I’ll be back to normal in about two weeks,” Post mentioned about his recovery. Regarding his future with the Warriors, he added, “I want to stay here for a long time.”

Will Richard: Looking Ahead to Summer League

The Warriors might have found a potential gem in rookie Will Richard, the 56th pick of the draft. He admitted that his performance dipped post-All-Star break due to a long season filled with high-intensity games and workouts.

Despite this, Richard is eager to get back on the court and plans to participate in the NBA Summer League again this July. “I know summer is going to be great,” he said, expressing excitement about the upcoming opportunities.
