Warning: Contains spoilers for The Devil Wears Prada 2.
The team behind The Devil Wears Prada 2 has reportedly decided to remove Sidney Sweeney’s cameo from the final cut of the film.
A source familiar with the situation discussed Sweeney’s omitted appearance in a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly.
Initially, Sweeney was set to show up early in the film, which features Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, and Stanley Tucci’s Nigel Kipling searching for Emily Blunt’s character at Dior’s New York headquarters.
When they arrived, they allegedly found Blunt’s character dressed as Sweeney, who was portraying one of Charlton’s celebrity clients, in a brief scene.
However, insiders indicated that the nearly three-minute scene felt somewhat disconnected from the overall flow they were envisioning.
The production team expressed that they valued Sweeney’s involvement, making the decision to exclude her a challenging one.
Aline Brosh McKenna, the film’s screenwriter, also confirmed Sweeney’s absence from the final cut during a recent interview.
There were murmurs about the 28-year-old “Christie” star’s possible cameo starting last summer, especially after fans claimed to have spotted her on set in New York.
A video from that time, now deleted, featured a blonde woman in a blue hoodie exiting a trailer while shielding her face with an umbrella.
These photos were taken amid Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle ad campaign, which received backlash for its tagline. Yet, she dismissed the rumors of a cameo in November when questioned about her presence on set.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to hit theaters on May 1st, featuring Hathaway, Streep, Tucci, and Blunt reprising their iconic roles from the original film.
This sequel also introduces Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Rachel Bloom, B.J. Novak, Kenneth Branagh, and Simone Ashley to the cast, alongside other notable names such as Lady Gaga, Ciara, and Ashley Graham, who were seen on set prior to filming’s conclusion.
