Fernando Mendoza’s 2026 NFL Draft Party Highlights
ESPN’s Taylor McGregor provided fans a glimpse into Fernando Mendoza’s celebration for the 2026 NFL Draft, broadcasting live from Mendoza’s childhood home in Coral Gables, Florida.
Just before the Raiders selected Mendoza as the first overall pick, McGregor captured a moment where she asked Mendoza’s brother, Max, how he was feeling in an Instagram Story. Max shared his excitement, saying, “I’m so excited… I’m ready to put on a suit, no tie, go bad, and see where he goes in the future,” while showing off a camera labeled “Players Tribune.”
McGregor was on-site with Mendoza’s family, enjoying the draft surrounded by loved ones. A touching moment unfolded as Mendoza embraced his mother, Elsa, who uses a wheelchair due to multiple sclerosis, before he donned a Raiders hat.
“The last five months have been a blessing from God, and I can’t thank you enough,” Mendoza expressed to McGregor. “I’m eager to start working and to prove myself at the next level.”
Reflecting on his college experience, he remarked, “College was great. I’m happy to have had that career. Now, I’m stepping into the NFL, a great game. I’m ready to prove it and win every day.”
When asked about joining the Raiders, co-owned by the legendary Tom Brady, Mendoza responded, “What a great organization, with an amazing legacy. There are so many teammates, coaches, and owners that I’m excited to connect with. This opportunity means a lot.”
After Mendoza was selected, Brady welcomed him to Las Vegas, urging him through social media, “Time to get to work.” He also congratulated this year’s rookie class, highlighting the importance of hard work and discipline that led them to this moment.
Mendoza will have veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins as a mentor after Cousins joined the Raiders earlier this month. Reflecting on his experience with Brady during his official visit to Las Vegas, Mendoza shared, “He said he’ll push me and wants to mentor whoever the Raiders have at quarterback.”
He noted that he had been studying Cousins’ plays since the quarterback’s tenure in Minnesota. It sounds like Mendoza has quite the journey ahead!
