Screencaps Takes a Look at Paige Spiranac’s Weekend
This week starts with a glance at Paige Spiranac, who wrapped up her weekend at a startup golf event known as Grass League, touted as “The World’s First High Stakes Spur 3 Golf League.”
Did I catch any of the action? Well, not really. I have my garden to tend to, kids to look after, a baseball team to coach, and a marriage to keep running smoothly. But it seems many folks were captivated by the event. From what I gather, Grass League brought Paige in to make a splash, and it looks like she succeeded.
After the team of Austin Quicker and Tyler Wewalski clinched a win, Paige posted on Instagram, “Can’t wait for the next event.” They shot a remarkable score of 23 under in the second round, bringing home a prize of $60,000.
So, when’s the next event? It’s set for September! Now we just need to figure out how to get Chris B., a Millennial from Bowling Green, to sign up. This guy bought new Mizuno irons but ended up 9 over on the US Open qualifying course on Sunday. Will two readers of this column be able to compete for the Grass League title? We’ll see.
New Landing Page for Screencaps Content
We mentioned that a landing page for Screencaps content was in the works, and it was rolled out late last week. You can find all Screencaps posts since the merger with Fox and OutKick.
By the way, I’ve received the Thursday Night Lawn Mowing League email three times now. I’m honestly surprised by how many responsible people send me stamped return envelopes for the TNML sticker.
Also, keep an eye out for the classy polo shirts that will be on sale this season. They’re perfect for scramble tournaments.
Baseball Season Kicks Off
Baseball season starts this week, though we might lose a pitcher and catcher due to an accident involving an electric scooter. Last week, a friend of Screencaps Jr., Lucas, got hit by one right in front of his house, resulting in some nasty scrapes. Fast forward to Saturday morning, and during final preparations for our Thursday opener, Lucas couldn’t throw a baseball. His wrist and forearm were bothering him. It’s tough—kids are already missing games, and now our long reliever is potentially out, too.
What we have now is just one catcher who was supposed to pitch for us. If I can keep my batting average up, maybe I’ll have a shot at Northwest Ohio Coach of the Year. Fortunately, nine kids have committed to tonight’s scrimmage, which is a relief to me. No need to scramble for replacements from the younger leagues.
As a fun side note, I asked the kids who watched any baseball on Friday night. Only one hand went up. But when it came to video games, four hands shot up. I challenged them to watch at least one inning over the weekend. It’ll be interesting to see if any take me up on that.
A Look Back at the Hulk Hogan Documentary
What an ending! I’m trying not to give away too much of the four-part series, but for those of us who grew up during the WWF era, it really brings up thoughts about our own lives. It’s quite stirring.
Wedding Invitations Gone Awry?
Have you ever received a “sorry” card telling you that you’re not invited to a wedding? I find it hard to believe until someone admits they’ve received such a thing. And do you send gifts in these cases? I’d love to hear back about where the wedding industry stands on this. Personally, I’m generally happy to see people getting married, but unless you’re family, I’m probably not attending. Mrs. Screencaps isn’t a big wedding fan. I’m totally fine not sending a message saying I wasn’t invited. No hard feelings.
A Nostalgic Baseball Card Collection Story
Screencap legend Indy Darryl recently checked in. He shared how he stumbled upon his long-lost baseball card collection while going through his mother’s things after his father’s passing. It was like a trip down memory lane. Although the cards may not be worth much, the joy of sorting through them and deciding how to store them brought back good memories. He even found a card that made him chuckle—Craig Biggio, but with a striking resemblance to a young Tom Brady!
A Visit to Dunham’s Sports
If you’re tired of the long waits at Dick’s Sporting Goods just to find shoes, Dunham’s might be the place for you. Everything is right out on the racks, and they offer some great patriotic hats.
That’s all for this morning. The sun is shining, and it looks promising for a baseball game later. I hope your Monday is going a lot better than last week’s.
May is just around the corner. Let’s end April on a high note and welcome summer with good vibes. Go out and tackle your work week!
