King Charles III and Queen Camilla Visit the U.S. for Celebration
King Charles III and Queen Camilla were welcomed by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House as they arrived in the United States for their inaugural trip since Charles ascended to the throne in 2022.
Upon landing at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Monday, the royal couple was met with a grand reception.
This visit comes shortly after the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner the previous Saturday. Nevertheless, President Trump, during a conversation with CBS’s 60 Minutes Overtime on Sunday, reassured that there were no concerns regarding safety in light of the royal visit.
“The White House grounds are really safe…He’s a great guy. They called, and they are so looking forward to being here. We spoke this morning,” Trump noted in the interview.
The trip, scheduled from April 27th to 30th, marks a significant milestone, celebrating 250 years of American independence.
“Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence,” shared a statement from the Royal Family.
Among the planned events, King Charles is anticipated to deliver a speech to Congress, becoming only the second British monarch to do so; the late Queen Elizabeth II addressed the House of Representatives in 1991.
Reportedly, during this visit, Charles is set to meet with President Trump while Camilla will have discussions with First Lady Melania Trump. They will also join a state dinner and travel to New York City, where Charles plans to pay respects at the 9/11 memorial before heading to Virginia.
King Charles’s visit arrives at a time of increased strain between the U.S. and the U.K., especially with Trump sharply criticizing Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the U.K.’s approach regarding the conflict with Iran.
