Wisconsin teacher put on leave following social media post promoting 'make Americans great assassins again'

A teacher in Wisconsin has been put on administrative leave after making a remark that many found troubling. Patrick Meyer, who teaches social studies at Kaukauna High School, expressed that he was “not impressed” by recent presidential assassination attempts.

Meyer went on to say that the infamous assassins of U.S. presidents—such as John Wilkes Booth, Charles Guiteau, Leon Czolgosz, and Lee Harvey Oswald—must be “rolling in their graves” due to the unsuccessful attempts in recent times. In a now-deleted post on X, he remarked, “I’m not impressed with presidential assassins these days. It’s so embarrassing! MAGAA (Make Americans Great Assassins Again)! So sad!” This seemed to play off President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan.

The Kaukauna Area School District issued a statement on Monday confirming that Meyer, who has been with the district for over 20 years, had been placed on administrative leave and that further steps would be taken to review the situation.

“The district has placed the employee on administrative leave and is taking additional steps to review this matter in accordance with its policies and procedures,” the statement mentioned.

They also emphasized their commitment to creating a safe learning environment, stating they “unequivocally reject acts, expressions, and actions that may encourage, condone, or promote violence in any form.” Additionally, the district clarified that Meyer’s post did not relate to the school and there was no identified risk to student or school safety.

Fox News Digital sought further comment from the school and from Meyer directly.

Responding to the situation, Rep. Tony Weed (R-Wis.) noted on social media, “This type of offensive rhetoric has no place in our society and is not representative of our values in #WI08. This is not the example our teachers should set for our students in Northeast Wisconsin.”

These comments come at a time of heightened concern surrounding political violence, especially after a recent shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.
