Karl-Anthony Towns impresses, Hawks struggle to respond to Knicks' change

Knicks Capitalize on Towns’ Dominance

The Hawks are struggling to find a way to counter Karl-Anthony Towns, and the Knicks are eager to exploit this advantage. Early in the series, it seemed like they weren’t utilizing Towns enough. However, things have shifted in the last two games, with the Knicks now just one win away from reaching the first round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

Towns had another standout performance, leading the Knicks to a 126-97 blowout victory over Atlanta in Game 5.

The Hawks tried to challenge the big man but failed to contain him.

Just three days after achieving his first playoff triple-double, Towns was instrumental in the team’s easy win, contributing 16 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists.

“He’s a special talent,” OG Anunoby remarked. “He can do it all. If I create space, he’s always there to find me, no matter how tight it is. Playing with him is fantastic.”

Atlanta opted for speed, deploying the athletic guard Dyson Daniels against Towns, but it didn’t work. Towns simply overpowered him.

In fact, he was particularly effective in the first half, putting up 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists as the Knicks established a 14-point lead.

Recent games have seen a change in the Knicks’ offensive strategy. More plays are designed around Towns, while Jalen Brunson has taken on a different role, playing off the ball.

Coincidental or not, Brunson undoubtedly had his best performance of the series in Game 5, scoring 39 points on an impressive 15-of-23 shooting.

“I felt the opportunities came naturally, and my teammates really stepped up today, making great cuts and allowing me to create plays,” Towns shared after Game 4.

Coach Mike Brown also noted the adjustment in strategy. “We were looking for different ways to get the ball to KAT. We switched things up early, and it just so happened that the ball found him a lot,” he explained.
