Father permanently prohibited from visiting Walt Disney World after battery offense

A father was apprehended and permanently banned from Walt Disney World after an altercation last week. Diego Rodriguez allegedly assaulted an actor dressed as Mirabel from the popular 2021 film Encanto while at the park.

This incident underscores the ongoing difficulties that theme parks encounter when dealing with crowds and visitor conduct, especially during busy character meet-and-greets. Disney has stringent behavior policies, and breaching these rules can lead to removal or a permanent ban from the property.

According to reports, Rodriguez was waiting in line for photographs in the Epcot area alongside a woman and child. Another staff member was assisting him in managing a larger family group at the time.

Despite being told that moving to the front of the line was not allowed, Rodriguez allegedly grew impatient and tried to do so. In a moment of excitement, the child attempted to run toward the actor. Meanwhile, a woman with Rodriguez asked Mirabel to sign her child’s autograph book, although Rodriguez claimed she was just taking a photo. Frustrated, the woman waved the autograph book in front of an employee.

Rodriguez then got involved, reportedly shaking a Disney employee’s arm and assaulting both the actor and the employee.

Witnesses recounted hearing him yell, “Why can’t anyone take pictures but us?” Following this confrontation, he received a lifetime ban from Walt Disney World and was taken into custody by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on battery charges.

Representatives from the Sheriff’s Office and Disney haven’t responded yet to requests for comments regarding the situation.

This action aligns with Disney’s park regulations, which state that disorderly behavior can lead to ejection without reimbursement and potential longer-term bans.

In recent years, Disney has been firm in its Guest Courtesy policy, reiterating a zero-tolerance stance against any form of abuse toward employees. Essentially, as the proprietors of the property, Disney has the authority to bar individuals who violate safety protocols, and such bans are usually not repealed, emphasizing the importance of guest cooperation for the park’s atmosphere.
