Individual in custody after two Kentucky bank workers killed during robbery

Tragic Bank Robbery in Kentucky

On Thursday, two bank employees in Kentucky were shot and killed during a robbery. Authorities have now taken a person of interest into custody.

This individual is thought to be connected to the robbery that took place at a U.S. Bank in Bellaire, which is located approximately 45 minutes south of Lexington.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that claimed the lives of two employees at our Bellaire, Kentucky, branch today,” a spokesperson stated.

According to state police, a suspect dressed in a gray-white hoodie, gloves, and a mask entered the bank and shot both a male and a female employee.

The victims were later identified as 35-year-old Brianna Edwards and 42-year-old Brian Switzer during a news conference held late Thursday night.

State police also revealed that an arrest was made on Friday morning. It remains unclear if the suspect managed to flee the bank with any stolen items. The shooting and robbery occurred shortly after 2 p.m., and a civilian was present in the bank at the time.

Law enforcement has stated that the search for the suspect included officers from various parts of central Kentucky. Reports indicate that they were trying to track down a silver BMW with Alabama plates, which was pursued at a high speed before the chase ended near Johnston Road in Fayette County. Afterward, the suspect fled on foot.

U.S. Bank expressed its commitment to cooperating with law enforcement and providing support to the families of the victims and their colleagues. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, our colleagues, and the entire Bellaire community,” the company added.

Berea, where the bank is located, is approximately 58 miles south of Lexington.
