They’ve not only created some of the most powerful GPU processors, which meet the substantial computing demands of AI, but they’ve also built an entire ecosystem that supports AI through various platforms and architectures.
Given this, it shouldn’t be surprising that Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, is already thinking about what comes next—he’s envisioning a computing revolution that will render Nvidia’s current top GPUs comparable to ancient pocket calculators. Yes, I’m referring to quantum computing.
So, will AI give rise to the world’s first millionaire? Recently, our team released a report about a lesser-known company, described as an “essential monopoly,” which supplies critical technology utilized by both Nvidia and Intel.
Enter the Ground Floor
When we talk about quantum computing, we’re discussing how it substitutes traditional binary bits (0s and 1s) with “qubits,” which can be 0 and 1 simultaneously. This incredible capability was showcased when a 105-qubit quantum computer solved a complex math problem in less than five minutes—a task that would take the fastest supercomputer a staggering 10 ceti billion years to complete.
However, there are challenges. Current quantum computers are, unfortunately, massive, pricey, and often unreliable. They can’t be used without specialized knowledge, which is a bit of a hurdle. Even though Huang acknowledges that Nvidia GPUs can’t compete with quantum chips in terms of processing power, he sees a way for Nvidia to improve their practicality.
This is why Huang has announced the launch of Nvidia’s first open-source quantum AI model, known as Nvidia Ising. This model aims to enable quantum processors to perform useful applications on a larger scale.
“AI is crucial for making quantum computing workable,” Huang stated. “With Ising, AI will act as the operating system for quantum machines, turning delicate qubits into scalable and reliable quantum GPU systems.”
Numerous companies, like Righetti Computing and IonQ, are also striving to enhance the speed and accuracy of quantum computers. It seems that Huang might be wise to take a step back from direct competition. By instead focusing on the tools that could mainstream quantum computing, Nvidia is positioning itself well for future relevance, which could be beneficial for its shareholders.
