Trump initiates 'Project Freedom' as Iran warns of possible attacks

New Developments in U.S.-Iran Relations

In light of the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which includes the persistent U.S. blockade, President Trump recently announced “Project Freedom” via a post on Truth Social. This initiative aims to aid foreign vessels in navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

“Nearly all countries not engaged in the visible and violent conflict in the Middle East have requested assistance from the United States to liberate their ships stuck in the Strait,” Trump posted on Sunday. He emphasized that these nations are merely neutral parties caught in the crossfire.

He mentioned that the actions of Project Freedom will kick off on Monday morning, local Middle East time.

However, Iran has issued stark warnings. Ali Abdullahi, a spokesperson, stated, “We’ve consistently maintained that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is under our control. Safe passage requires military coordination.” He cautioned that foreign forces, particularly aggressive U.S. troops, would face attacks if they attempted to engage in the area.

According to U.S. Central Command, around 15,000 military personnel are slated to be involved in this operation. Their support includes various military assets such as guided missile destroyers and over 100 aircraft from different branches of the armed forces.

In a separate development, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday that a U.S. seizure of an Iranian-flagged vessel last month will be reversed. They indicated that as a gesture of goodwill, the 22 crew members detained on board the MV Tuska have been transferred to Pakistan and will be returned to Iranian authorities shortly. The ship itself will also be sent back, pending necessary repairs.

“These returns come as a result of collaboration between Iranian and U.S. officials,” the statement noted. Pakistan expressed support for such confidence-building measures and reiterated its commitment to dialogue and diplomacy aimed at achieving peace in the region.
