Teacher Arrested for AI-Generated Child Exploitation Images

A Nebraska middle school teacher faces serious allegations for reportedly using artificial intelligence to generate over 100 images depicting child sexual abuse. Reports indicate that the teacher also watched disturbing child pornography and engaged in indecent conduct while at school.

The Nebraska State Patrol announced that Matthew Rand, 47, was arrested at his home in Omaha early on April 22.

Parents have expressed their shock. One parent commented, “He made a lot of kids uncomfortable, including my son, but he couldn’t explain why.” This sentiment captures the unease felt by many in the community.

Authorities charged Lund with possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, and a judge assigned a bail amount of $1 million during a court appearance on April 23. As part of the conditions, he is prohibited from contacting anyone under the age of 19 and must wear a GPS monitor.

Lund was employed at Millard Public Schools but is currently not listed on the staff roster. An archived version of the school’s website identifies him as a science and STEM teacher.

Police stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest any students were direct victims in this case.

According to court documents, the investigation began on February 23 when a tip from the National Center on Missing and Exploited Children reached the Nebraska State Patrol. Allegedly, child sexual abuse material was uploaded from Millard Public Schools to a Google account linked to the defendant.

Prosecutors provide details that investigators discovered 423 AI-generated images on the Google account. The images reportedly included children under the age of 12, including very young infants.

For instance, one described image contains a naked child, seemingly between three and five years old, in a compromising position. Another involves a child of similar age engaged in sexual acts with an adult.

Court records reveal the existence of multiple images depicting children aged 8 to 10 in various explicit scenarios. The prosecution emphasized, “We found 104 files matching materials indicative of sexual assault against children ranging from infants to around 12 years old.” It is alleged that Lund engaged in acts of self-gratification while viewing these images at school.

Lund reportedly admitted to creating child sexual assault material involving a prepubescent child and has faced scrutiny of potentially being the first individual charged under a law addressing AI-generated child pornography, signed into law in May 2025.

Millard Public Schools announced that Lund has been terminated from his position. The school district ensures thorough background checks during hiring and maintains communication with law enforcement to address ongoing concerns.

This situation has shaken many parents, with one sharing the disbelief that someone entrusted with their child’s safety would participate in such acts. Another parent added, “It’s just unsettling. You think you’re leaving your kids in safe hands.”

The Nebraska State Patrol is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
