The family has confirmed the identity of an 18-year-old woman who was killed and nearly 20 others injured in a shooting in Arcadia Lakes, Oklahoma. The deceased has been identified as Avianna Smith-Gray, described by her family as a loving individual.
A GoFundMe campaign, established by her family, highlights that Avianna was passionate about dancing, great with kids, and had a talent for singing and hairstyling. The campaign reads, “Avianna was so full of life… She just graduated and was looking forward to her future!” It’s painfully clear that she was cherished by many.
Details of the Incident
While local police have not officially released her identity, they’ve confirmed an 18-year-old woman died from her injuries sustained during the shooting, which occurred on Sunday night. The Edmond Police Department stated, “We are saddened to confirm that an 18-year-old young woman succumbed to her injuries.”
According to reports, the shooting took place shortly after 9 p.m. during an unpermitted party that had attracted a large crowd from the surrounding area. At least 23 individuals suffered injuries related to the shooting, with around 10 transported to local hospitals.
Witnesses reported that tensions rose at the party, sparking arguments among attendees. Jeremiah Braxton, a witness, mentioned that the atmosphere quickly shifted to panic. “Everyone was scared,” he said, recalling the chaos that ensued.
Another witness, Michael Triplett, who was shot in the back, described the scene as a “horrible situation.” His testimony, along with other accounts, paints a distressing picture of the event, which drew numerous emergency responders, including Oklahoma City police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Ongoing Investigation
As of now, authorities have not released details about any suspects, emphasizing that “investigative authorities are actively working on this case.” The Edmond Police Department did not provide a comment when approached for further information.
