Spencer Pratt Gains Ground in LA Mayoral Race After Debate

Following the latest televised debate, Republican candidate Spencer Pratt for Los Angeles mayor garnered significant praise for his performance, which surpassed many expectations.

Viewers and analysts agreed that the former reality TV star convincingly triumphed over incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and City Council member Nitya Raman.

Debate highlights ignited reactions on social media, notably from Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late senator from Arizona. She voiced enthusiastic support for Pratt on X, which helped boost his unconventional campaign’s momentum.

“This is not an exaggeration. Spencer Pratt is the blueprint for how older millennials of my generation should communicate and present their ideas and campaign messages when running for office. He is 10/10 — absolute raw talent. Killed the discussion,” McCain stated.

Other observers also took note. Columnist Dustin Grage from town hall pointed out a key moment when Pratt’s concise response contrasted sharply with his opponents’.

“The moderator asked a straightforward yes or no question: Should non-citizens be able to vote in local elections? Spencer Pratt: ‘No.’ Karen Bass and Nithya Raman both offered… well, a salad of words,” Grage remarked.

After lengthy and convoluted responses from Bass and Raman, Pratt’s direct “no” stood out, positioning him as the most forthright candidate on that topic.

“Spencer Pratt destroyed Nitya Raman, who was trying to pitch a duo with Bass against him,” noted a user on Twitter.

Bass particularly struggled to convey clear answers on the issue of non-citizen voting, waffling when asked about whether illegal aliens should vote in local elections. Instead of a definitive response, she stated, “It depends.”

Furthermore, Bass faced backlash over her handling of the city’s response to the January 2025 Palisades wildfire. She admitted that her absence in Ghana during the crisis left her with “one of the worst moments” in her life.

Pratt challenged her claims about the aerial firefighting efforts, pointing out that weather data contradicted claims of extreme winds at the time. This exchange led Pratt to call her an “incredible liar,” a moment that quickly went viral and added to the criticism of her administration’s preparedness.

“I thought Pratt would be, you know, great but also somewhat disingenuous, but honestly, his emotions came through. It felt like Bass and Raman weren’t truthful about improving the situation for Angelenos. Pratt won me over,” commented one observer.

Criticism of Bass continues, particularly regarding her administration’s management of the previous year’s destructive wildfires, which resulted in numerous casualties and exorbitant property damage. Many Angelenos feel that the city’s emergency response and recovery efforts have been inadequate, contributing to a significant public outcry.

An impressive 88% of online readers voted Pratt as the debate’s victor, while 7% favored Bass and 4% supported Raman.
