Gorka Discusses Succession Protocols for Trump Administration
In a recent interview on “Pod Force One,” White House official Sebastian Gorka shared that he has given Vice President J.D. Vance specific guidance in the event that President Trump enters a second term.
Gorka, who has played a key role in shaping the Trump administration’s counterterrorism approach, expressed to Miranda Devine that he isn’t overly worried about Trump facing an assassination attempt from foreign adversaries. Still, he pointed out that there are established succession protocols that nations like China might consider if they were to somehow “remove him.”
“I’ve got a letter ready in my desk just in case something happens to the vice president,” Gorka mentioned, emphasizing the seriousness of the protocols in place. “There are procedures, but I can’t go into detail on them,” he noted.
Earlier this year, Trump claimed he had “very firm instructions” should any threats against him materialize, specifically mentioning potential military actions against Iran during a discussion. He recently reiterated that he has given advance warning amid threats from Iran.
This week, Trump is slated to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss U.S.-China trade, the rise of artificial intelligence, and concerns about nuclear weapon developments in Beijing.
Some advisors to Trump see this summit as a chance to encourage China to assist in resolving concerns over the Strait of Hormuz and diminishing the conflict with Iran, though that may not be the main focus of discussions.
Gorka had a few thoughts on Trump’s second term, stating that he has effectively portrayed himself as a significant obstacle to China’s ambitions. Concerns about the president’s safety during this visit have been raised. “He stands as the only barrier between them and global dominance,” Gorka remarked. He acknowledged that adversaries might not act immediately, but suggested that there are ways to target him discreetly.
Yet, he quickly reassured, “I’m not anxious about an immediate threat,” insisting he believes Trump is “very safe.” He spoke about the president’s stature, saying, “This is a powerful figure akin to someone like Eisenhower. Everyone wants to collaborate with him.”
Trump has survived several assassination attempts, with two occurring during his campaign in 2024. One involved a shooter at a rally in Pennsylvania; the attacker was killed by a Secret Service agent. Trump was hit in the ear by a bullet amid the chaos.
Additionally, another suspect sought to harm Trump while he was at a golf course in Florida but was apprehended before reaching the president. Notably, Trump reportedly communicated with Vance shortly after that event, relaying, “You won’t believe it; they tried again.”
The most recent attempt occurred at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where an individual attempted to fire a weapon but was subdued before causing harm.
Additionally, Army Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed that an Iranian official who was involved in plotting an assassination on Trump during the campaign was killed in an operation last March.
